Body Lift

A well-toned body can usually be attained by following a healthy lifestyle. But even the most rigorous diets and exercise regimens cannot give individuals the appearance they desire. Factors such as sun exposure, pregnancy, and the natural aging process also contribute to sagging skin on the body. A body lift is a surgical procedure that eliminates excess skin and fat from various areas of the body to provide patients with a slimmer, more attractive appearance. At Das Plastic Surgery Center, our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Suman Das, has helped many men and women improve their physique through a body lift procedure.

Best Candidates

Individuals best suited for a body lift are in good overall health and at a stable body weight. They should not smoke and have realistic expectations about the procedure.

Ideal candidates for body lift surgery have excess skin in one or more of the following areas:

  • Abdomen

  • Back

  • Thighs

  • Buttocks

During your initial consultation, Dr. Das will ask you questions and evaluate your medical history to determine if a body lift is right for you.

Technique

A body lift is performed on an outpatient basis and takes one to three hours to complete, depending on the condition of each patient. The procedure is done under general anesthesia, and the incisions are made in the natural folds of the skin to hide scarring. In some cases, liposuction may also be combined with a body lift in order to reduce fat deposits and attain the best look possible.

Recovery Time

After the procedure is complete, bandages will be applied to the sites of incision and the body will be wrapped with a special compression garment to minimize swelling. Over the next few days, prescribed medication can be taken to alleviate any pain or discomfort that exists after surgery. In most cases, patients can return to work about a week after surgery, but they should refrain from any strenuous activity or exercise for the first four to six weeks. Following Dr. Das’ postoperative instructions is vital to patients making the safest recovery possible.
