Mommy Makeover

Having a child is a rewarding moment in a woman’s life. However, the effects of pregnancy leading up to childbirth, as well as the results left behind from breastfeeding, can leave a mother’s body with a less than attractive physical appearance. Women who have had multiple pregnancies are often left with even greater signs of aging and sagging tissues. This has led to the development of the popular surgical procedure known as a “Mommy Makeover.” At Das Plastic Surgery Center, Dr. Suman Das performs mommy makeover surgery to help women get back a body that resembles what they looked like before pregnancy. Usual sites of the body affected are the breasts, abdomen, thighs, buttocks, arms, and back.

Best Candidates

Individuals best suited for a mommy makeover are in good overall health and are finished having children. Patients must be least one year after their last pregnancy and have realistic expectations about the outcome of the Mommy Makeover procedure.

Ideal candidates for a mommy makeover should wish to correct one or more of the following:

  • Sagging breasts and nipples that point downward

  • Stretch marks and loose skin of the breasts, abdomen and thighs

  • Bulging abdominal wall (rectus diastasis)

  • Excess skin and fat deposits in the back, lower body, and arms

During your consultation, Dr. Das will take your personal preferences into account and help you decide if a mommy makeover can be beneficial to you.

Techniques

A mommy makeover is done on an outpatient basis and usually takes three to four hours to complete. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and involves of a combination of procedures that target specific areas of the body. Depending on what parts of the mother’s body need to be improved will determine which of the following surgical methods are utilized.

Breast Lift

A breast lift corrects the sagging of the breasts by removing excess skin and fat. After the remaining skin is tightened, the breasts are repositioned to a more youthful contour.

Breast Augmentation

A breast augmentation adds volume and fullness to the breasts with the insertion of saline or silicone implants. The implants are inserted through tiny incisions and closed after they are correctly positioned in the breasts.

Breast Lift and Augmentation together

Liposuction

Liposuction removes deposits of fat from various areas of the body using a unique suctioning device called a cannula. Liposuction is used in just about every body contouring surgery as an adjunct procedure.

Tummy Tuck

A tummy tuck removes excess skin and fat deposits from the midsection. The abdominal muscles are then tightened to reveal a slimmer and more defined stomach.

Body Lift

Body lift procedures are usually performed on the back, thighs, and buttocks to get rid of fat deposits and loose skin. Fat deposits are removed, and skin is tightened to a better contour.

Recovery

After the procedure is complete, bandages will be placed on the incisions and compression garments will be used to minimize swelling and bruising. Special tubes may be needed to drain any excess fluid that exists after surgery, and prescribed medication can be taken to relieve any discomfort that exists over the next few days. Although most patients feel good enough to return to work about a week after surgery, any strenuous activities should be avoided for the first four to six weeks. This not only gives your body time to get used to its new shape, but also allows the incisions to fully heal. To ensure a safe recovery, it is best to follow Dr. Das’ postoperative instructions.
