Facelift

As we get older, our skin tends to give in to the effects of sun exposure, stress, and gravity. For many people, the appearance of wrinkles and sagging skin is most apparent on the face and neck. Also known as a “rhytidectomy,” a facelift is a procedure that can restore a youthful look to the face by smoothing and firming the skin. At Das Plastic Surgery Center, our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Suman Das, has helped many men and women attain a rejuvenated facial appearance.

Best Candidates
Ideal candidates for facelift surgery are individuals who are in good overall health and who wish to improve at least one or more of the following conditions:

  • Sagging in the midface

  • Deep creases between the nose and mouth

  • Laxity in the jawline

  • Folds and fat deposits around the neck

  • Lax neck muscles

  • Technique

The type of method that is performed during the surgery depends on the condition of each individual’s face. During your initial consultation, Dr. Das will take your preferences into account and help you determine which of the following techniques are best for you.

Full Facelift
A full facelift revitalizes the entire midface and neck. This technique includes excising excess skin while the muscles of the face are repositioned. An incision is made at the temple that extends in front of the ear, around the earlobe, the behind the ear and into the lower scalp. After the fat is sculpted, the excess skin is removed and then tightened to reveal a more youthful facial appearance.

Mini Facelift
A mini facelift is performed when improvement is only needed in the lower face. Small incisions are made at the temples and travel down in front of the ear. Typically, a mini facelift is performed on younger patients with very little neck laxity.

Necklift
In some cases when rejuvenation is only required in the neck area, a neck lift is performed alone. An incision is made around the ear, which extends down to the lower scalp.

“Das Lift”
Dr. Das has launched a new facelift technique called the “Das Lift,” which can be done on an outpatient basis. Not only does the “Das Lift” take less time to perform, but it also costs less than a traditional facelift.

No matter which technique is performed, the incisions are hidden in the hairline and the natural creases of the ears to lessen the likelihood of scarring being noticed.

Recovery Time
Once the facelift is complete, the incisions will be wrapped with bandages, and a drainage tube may be placed under the skin to remove excess fluid and reduce swelling. Medication can also be prescribed to alleviate pain or discomfort that may exist during the first couple of days of downtime. Generally, patients feel good enough to return to work about a week after surgery, but they should avoid strenuous activity for the first four to six weeks to give ample time for the incisions to fully heal. As always, following Dr. Das’ postoperative instructions will ensure that you make a safe and swift recovery.
